Leon Stephenson

Leon Stephenson is Head of Fire & Building Safety at Gentoo Group, one of the largest housing associations in the North East of England. With over 18 years of experience in the housing sector, he leads the organisation's approach to fire, building and landlord safety across more than 29,000 homes and corporate assets. 

Leon is responsible for the strategic oversight of fire and building safety, including regulatory compliance, fire risk management, building safety assurance, safety case management, resident engagement and organisational governance. He leads a multidisciplinary team of specialists and works closely with regulators, Fire and Rescue Services, contractors and industry partners to deliver safe homes and drive continuous improvement across the organisation. 

Throughout his career, Leon has played a key role in implementing major legislative and regulatory changes, including the Building Safety Act, helping to shape organisational standards, assurance frameworks and approaches to resident safety. He is actively involved in sector forums and collaboration groups, contributing to the development of best practice and supporting the advancement of professional standards across the housing sector.
