John Hughes

John Hughes is Head of Assets & Sustainability at Ongo Homes, leading the strategic management, investment and decarbonisation of more than 11,500 homes. John led the development of Ongo’s 2026–2029 Strategic Asset Management Plan and Asset Management Policy, which bring together building safety, property condition, customer experience, carbon reduction and long-term asset viability. 

Under this data-led approach, stock condition survey coverage has increased to 89.7% and is expected to exceed 95% by year-end. Ongo has also retained SHIFT Gold status for the first time,  and more than 91% of its homes are rated EPC C or above.  

John’s work focuses on balancing safety, sustainability, affordability and financial capacity, using robust data and resident insight to make better long-term investment decisions and deliver safer, warmer and more resilient homes.
